Canon FA 2DDC67A Filter Adapter

Canon FA 2DDC67A Filter Adapter

None of the Canon Megazoom bridge cameras has threaded lens barrel so we can't mount filters without using a custom build filter adapter. There are several of these in market in both 67mm and 58mm sizes. But the best one among these is the Canons own custom filter adapter for their bridge cameras. That's Canon FA 2DDC67A Filter Adapter for Canon SX50, SX40, SX30 and SX10 - SX20 cameras.

When you buy this 67mm filter adapter make sure to buy a 67mm lens cap along with it since the one comes with camera won't fit after mounting this adapter. Don't take one or off the filter adapter too often because then it will damageand you will nee another one soon. I have seen so many people complain about these filter adapters are low quality and they have to replace those often. That happens when you don't use these items with care. I have 3 58m filter adapters which I bought for my Canon SX10 Camera and after nearly 5 years these filter adapters still work fine.

Also there are third party 58mm filter adapters for Canon SX40 / Canon SX50 cameras and you might able to get it for cheaper but if you like to keep everything original then Canon FA 2DDC67A Filter Adapter is the best one among the lot. Also there is Bower 67mm filter adapter which is cheaper but customers seems have complains about it because of it's made of plastic (Canon adapter is plastic too). I think main reason for all these problems like cracking or breaking is the way they handle.

You can buy this original Canon 67mm filter adapter for Canon SX40 and other bridge cameras from Amazon for only $29 with free shipping. If you are going to buy this the make sure to pick a 67mm Lens Cap (Here) which is only $2 along with it too. Otherwise you will need to order it again later. Also another accessory which might come handy is a 67mm UV filter which is one of the first reason why you need this filter adapter. That's to use this UV filter as lens protector for your SX40 Camera.

Waiting For Canon SX60

Canon Powershot SX60 HS Camera

Planing to upgrade your Canon SX40 HS camera ? From the cameras in market right now probably your choice might be Canon Powershot SX50 camera but there are rumors Canon would be releasing a new Megazoom bridge camera in this year. Probably that's will be the Canon Powershot SX60 HS camera with a 60x optical zoom. But it's really suspicious why they are still holding without releasing the camera or any information about it. Some other camera brands has already release 60x bridge cameras and those cameras are in market already. I don't think Canon camera fans want to go for those so everyone waiting for Canons answer for 60x zoom range.

You can move from Your Canon SX40 to Canon SX50 but it would be a really shocker if Canon release this mysterious SX60 camera after you buy the SX50. But it's really frustrating the lack of information about this new camera model. Canon SX50 was released in 2012 so it's already 2 years and they should have released a new model this year.

Also now there is a light range of these heavy bridge cameras. Canon released a SX510 HS camera last year which has a 30x optical zoom but lighter and thinker design. It's price at $199 so it has become very popular and already one of the best selling point and shoot camera at Amazon.

It has most of those things Canon SX50 has like 12.1 megapixel high-sensitivity 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, 1080p full HD video in stereo sound, 30x optical zoom and 24mm wide-angle lens with Optical Image Stabilizer etc. For someone whos looking for Zoom camera but for less than $200 Canon SX510 HS (Check Here) is the best option out there.

If you desperately need to upgrade your camera but also don't want miss the SX60 model which might come later this year then why not go for Canon SX510 ? Yeah, you will need to pay $199 for that but you can give it to your partner or kid who is interested in photography if you have to buy the SX60 later too. Or you might even decide to keep the SX510 and save money.

Lens Protector for Canon SX40 HS Camera

Lens Protector for Canon SX40 HS Camera

If you have a Powershot Canon SX40 HS camera then I'm sure you love it. It's an expensive point and shoot camera comparing with other point and shoot models. So I'm sure you want to use it for a long time and have no plans to upgrade to the current latest Canon Bridge camera which is Canon SX50 HS.

Keeping your camera lens safe is the most important thing when it comes to the safely of your camera. SX40 has an inbuilt zoom lens which you can't take out or replace. If something happen to that or you break it then you need to get it to factory and it can cost same as new camera price. So it's better pay attention to keep your camera lens unscratched.

Only way to do this is using a UV Filter with your camera. So if some kind accident happen the UV filter will take the damage and keep your lens safe. It's lot cheaper to replace filter than camera. But you need a filter adapter to mount a filter on your Canon SX40 camera lens. Canon has it's own product for this which is called Canon FA-2DDC67A Filter Adapter and it's expensive. Cost you around $30 at Amazon (Check Here for lowest price). Plus you need to pay for UV filter and 67mm Lens cap too.

If you are looking for cheaper solution for this then you can try this Low cost filter protector kit offered by Fotasy. You can get it from Amazon for just $14 with free shipping. It has a custom filter adapter which works for Canon bridge camera series, 67mm lens cap and a 67mm Pro1D SMC UV filter.

Replacement Battery for Canon SX40

Canon Powershot SX40 uses NB-10L Lithium batteries just like Canon SX50 does. You only get one battery with the camera so It's a good idea to buy one or two extra batteries to use when you are going on trip or for a event like party. Fully charge NB-10L battery can take over 200 photos but you can't be sure about rechargeable batteries. Sometimes these batteries seems to have their own mind and will. So it's always extra battery or  two can come handy. Good news is these NB-10L batteries are cheap. You can get one for less than 10 USD. Canon NB-10L Batteries are expensive. One would cost around $40 but you don't need Canon batteries as extra. Other brands work fine for this.

Something you need to know about Lithium batteries is you need to "train" brand new batteries. You might feel in first couple of times these batteries loose power fast or that you can't take enough photos with it. It might be like this in first couple of times you charge the battery and then it will work as normal. Also You must remember the correct time frame battery takes to fully charge. In a standard charger it might take 14 hours to fully change a 750 mAH battery. Check the Camera manual for more information. Also check battery cover to find the capacity of your NB-10L Lithium batteries.
Having 2 chargers can be a big advantage. Specially if you need all your batteries to be ready in morning in middle of a trip. It's not expensive at all. NB-10L battery charger with 2 batteries can be bought at Amazon for less than $20. This combo package along enough for you since you will get one battery and charger along with your Canon SX40 camera.

I checked Amazon and found this NB-10L battery charger pack is really a good one for it's price. You get 2 1200mAH NB-10L batteries, Travel Charger, Micro Fiber Cleaning Cloth and a Deluxe Universal 5" LCD Screen Protector. All these for just $18.

This pack is good for several Canon camera models like Canon SX50, Canon SX40, PowerShot G15 and  Canon G1X cameras. You won't find a cheaper or better deal than this for a this kind of  NB-10L battery and charger combo.

67mm Filter Adapter For Canon SX40 Camera

One of the most important accessories you need for your Canon Powershot SX40 HS Camera is 67mm Filter Adapter. You need this because without the filter adapter you can mount Filters on your camera because lens barrel doesn't have threads for mounting those. So First you need to mount custom Filter adapter and then filter should be mounted on adapter. This is why you need to buy this along with the Canon SX40 camera. Some people want to know why do they need filters with this point and shoot camera. Answer is, SX40HS has a long lens barrel and it's 40x opitcal zoom is the most important feature of this camera. So if something happens to the lens or front element of lens barrel can cost you the camera. You might able to get it repaired by sending your damaged SX40 to Canon factory but this gonna cost you half of the camera price. So the cheapest way to keep your Camera Lens safe from scratches and cracks is keeping a UV filter mount on. This way most of the time you will have to replace this UV filter before it will take the damage and save your expensive lens. and camera too in this case. Im sure you can understand the price difference between $10 Filter and $300 camera. Don't be greedy so you can save $10 and risk your $300+ Canon SX40 camera.

There is a Chinese 58mm Filter Adapter which works with Canon SX40HS too. But Canon has made its own 67mm Filter adapter for Canon SX40 and rest of the cameras in Canon superzoom bridge camera series. I'm sure there is a reason for Canon to choose 67mm size not 58mm. So It's better stick with 67mm Filter Adapter. Canon 67mm Filter Adapter cost you around $20 but you can buy a Bower 67mm Filter Adapter for $11 with free shipping At Amazon. This is probably the best one and cheapest too.

Also remember to buy a 67mm Lens Cap along with your new 67mm Filter Adapter. Because the original lens cap won't fix with 67mm adapter. And it's not safe to go around without a lens cap so made sure to buy it. You can added 67mm snap on tulip lens hood too, it will give some extra protection to your Canon Powershot SX40 HS Camera. There are some combo offers where you can get all these for less than $25 at Amazon.

Why does Canon SX40 price is still high ?

Canon SX40 Camera

I really don't get it. If you check Amazon prices You can see Canon SX40 is still priced as $325 and New Canon SX50 camera is $375 ! Now if someone want to buy a new Canon superzoom camera would that person buy the SX40 because it's just 50 bucks cheaper ? Specially when Canon SX50 clear superior over SX40 by miles. Maybe Amazon just can't change the price of old stock so just leave it there.

Both cameras use same 12.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and but Canon SX50 has this whopping 50x optical zoom (24-1200mm) and 24mm wide-angle lens which Canon SX40 has only 40x optical zoom equalent to 24-840mm . If you are in market for Superzoom camera then you wouldn't go for the camera with 40x optical zoom just because its $50 cheaper.
